Lisa takes a basic I–VI–ii–V progression in C major (C6/9–A7–Dm7–G7) and swaps out the VI and V chords for ones with roots a tritone away—Eb9 and Db9, respectively. She starts by showing some jazzy chord voicings you can use, then demonstrates how to apply them in context. To wrap it up, Lisa improvises over the progression in fiery fashion, showing just how colorful and expressive tritone substitutions can be.
